About Me

My photo
Hello everyone! My name is Mercedes Harvey and I am your current Miss California Teen Achieve 2010. This is a blog I will update weekly of all the great events and fantastic/life changing opportunities that serving as your queen has allowed me to have. I will be uploading pictures and videos and then telling you a summary of what they are about. What I hope to accomplish by this blog is to help young women become interested in participating in the Miss California Teen Achieve Pageant. It is truly a one of a kind scholarship pageant based on scholastic achievement and community service, not just beauty. It will increase your self confidence, help you possibly win scholarship money and meet amazing friends for life, and teach you valuable assets about yourself. Don’t miss out! :)

The Poway Parade .

Yesterday was the Poway Parade. Since it was Western themed, I dressed up as a cowgirl, with a cowboy hat, boots, a cute western dress and horseshoe belt. My aunt and her boyfriend were going to be driving me in the parade in his gorgeous mustang convertible and so we all traveled down to Poway to get ready for the set up. At first, because of the confusing directions on MapQuest, we found ourselves getting lost but then, after calling my dad (who was in a separate car) we were able to figure it out. After arriving at the parade scene, my mom and aunt and I helped decorate the mustang along with the rest of the parade participants. Then we decided to walk down the streets and introduce ourselves to everyone else while we waited for the parade to start. I met clowns, veterans from Vietnam, special ed children, a gymnastics club, Boy Scouts, politicians, chefs, and drummers from Japan. I wish I could have met more but time ran out and I barely had time to get back in my own car for the parade! But once it started, I had so much fun! There was such a variety of people around me. This included horses, people on stilts, school bands and tractors. As I drove by in the parade, and waved and smiled at the people on either side of the road, I got cheers, smiles and “oohs and aahs” from little girls who were so excited to the “princess” riding by. Once again, I felt on top of the world. I love being able to represent my state in this way.
